Making the cabinet box out of solid wood is impractical for most sizes due to moisture deformation and the scarce availability of stock wider than one foot. Fortunately, plywood was invented to overcome these concerns. It doesn’t warp, can be made in large sheets, and is actually much stronger than most hardwoods of the same thickness, especially where the grain is weakest.

Don’t settle for fake plywoods, either. While certain budget cabinets use 1/2″ or even 3/8″ plywood—or worse, particle board or MDF that have a fake veneer—we use only high-grade 3/4″ plywood, yielding a cabinet that will stay strong and look great for many decades. The amazing part is that since we build locally here in the New River Valley, you’re not wasting money to ship bulky cabinets across the country or importing them from overseas.
